Sun Microsystems Corp. first demonstrates the JAVA platform and then Microsoft advocates its ActiveX platform. Therefore, it can be expected that the next step in this trend will be the collaboration of application software such as CAD software system with the Internet operating platform. At present, the application of CAD software system in Internet environment mainly focuses on the integration of existing CAD system with Internet in terms of home page development and interface control. However, this kind of integration has inherent difficulty in achieving the functionality of a completely seamless integrated interface.
This thesis proposed a CAD software system and architecture, which is based on the Internet operation platform. One characteristic of this system is to embed all the CAD functions into the web pages so that the CAD software system and Internet environment can be merged seamlessly. This system is named “Easy CAD for Web” and based on the object-oriented technology and the ActiveX component technology as well. It is a CAD software system, which can stride over heterogeneous computer operating platform. As long as the operating system supports Internet/Intranet browser and ActiveX virtual machine, this CAD software system can be downloaded from the World Wide Web and directly executed on Web pages to fulfill the drawings of mechanical parts, design modifications, and data persistence, etc.
