In these years, many purchasing performance evaluation procedures、rules、benchmarks and criteria have been proposed. However, none a research is conducted in Taiwan to develop the purchasing performance evaluation method that is especially feasible for Taiwan industry. In addition, none a research addresses the weights of these benchmarks and criteria. Therefore the objective of this research is to develop a quantitative purchasing performance evaluation method based on the model developed by Baily and Farmer (1982) and based on the opinions of experts who have experiences in purchasing. This research develops a questionnaire to investigate the benchmarks and criteria that is especially feasible in Taiwan industry. This research also develops another questionnaire based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) to investigate the relative weights of these benchmarks and criteria. In this research, the electronics, automobile, steel and mechanics industries are investigated. This research finds out the differences in these benchmarks and criteria, and the differences in these weights of these criteria in these four industries. These findings will be helpful for Taiwan industry to evaluate purchasing performance.
