Therefore, the courses'' designing in the high education should be properly examined and altered after considering the changes of the society environment. By doing so, the students in the high education might fit into their jobs better in the future. It is, however, many departments in colleges in Taiwan did not make proper course-adjustments due to the departments were not able to realize the changes of society. Some departments may make some course-adjustment but not applying a way of systematic and scientific investigation. Therefore, most departments in colleges still can not make better course-adjustments that fit the needs of society. This research based on the concepts of total quality management and the recent needs of Taiwan society to design the courses of Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) in the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST). The investigated companies are the best one thousand manufacturing companies in Taiwan. The methods of questionnaire and quality function deployment were applied. The findings of this research are: (1) most companies consider that "production management" is the best work for the students who major in the department of IE&M, following by "quality management" (2) different types of work demand different professional skills of IE&M. Therefore, this research proposes different compositions of courses for different types of work demands. It is hoping that the students in the department of IE&M in the NYUST may refer the above course proposal.
