The survey of sexual education performence in junior high school in Taipei County

This study randomly selected nine junior high schools out of seventy-four junior high schools in Taipei County. Totally 1080students attended the research, completed 986 copies of questionnaires, together with 18 teachers and school nurses had been interviewed. Research results: 1.The methods of sexual education performance are used mostly by lecturing, so does the outdoor classes is the same. But the popular method is through audiovisual tape. For content, the topics of puberty development and relationship are well explained, and the topics of unplanted pregnancy and homosexuality are poorly explained. The teachers of health education and counseling are involved in the activities of sexual education. 2.Less than 50% of samples had received the materials of sexual education. And only 25% of students had been encouraged to check out any materials of sexual education. Topics like puberty and relationship are the topics that mostly watched by students, other topics like sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy are seldom watched. Most of students think those topics are helpful. The person who is in charge the facilities is data manager. 3.A third of students think that school nurses had involved activities of sexual education in school. Most of activities conducted by school nurses are health counseling. For students'''' opinion of school nurses involved in the activities of sexual education are mostly positive. The best approach is also the health counseling. 4.Most of students think that sexual education needs to be emphasis. The most appropriate person involved in the outdoor classes of sexual education in school are doctors and school nurses. By the way, teachers and classmates is the best provider of sexual knowledge. Recommendation of further research are : 1. To encourage more research about the cooperation among school faculties, teachers and school nurses. 2. Research for teachers'''' and school nurses'''' experiences of related to sexual education, to get their difficulties about sexual education. 3. Modify the questionnaire, extend the range of research, conducting the different graders into consideration. 3. The school nurses take apart in the activities of sex education and students'''' opinion about their participation. A third of students think that school nurses had involved activities of sex education in school. Most of activities conducted by school nurses are health counseling. The reasons that have kept the school nurses from involved activities of sex education in school are heavy workload, confused about their profession roles, duties and functions, belonging different department and uninvited. For students'''' opinion of school nurses involved in the activities of sex education are mostly positive. The best approach is also the health counseling. 4. The viewpoint and expectation of sex education in junior high school Most of students think that sex education needs to be emphasis. The most suitable people involved in the outdoor classes of sex education in school are doctors and school nurses. By the way, teachers and classmates is the best provider of sexual knowledge. According to the results our suggestions of further research are: (1). To encourage more research about the cooperation among school faculties, teachers and school nurses. (2). Research for teachers and school nurses experiences of talk about sexuality, to get their difficulties about sex education. (3). Modify the questionnaire, extend the range of research, conducting put different graders in to consideration.
