碩士 === 大同工學院 === 資訊工程研究所 === 87 === The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is the Internet standard protocol for exchanging management information between management console applications and managed objects. A Management Information Base (MIB) describes a set of managed objects. Although SNMP is named simple, it does't mean that the SNMP software (agent and manager) under the umbrella of SNMP can be trivially build. To compensate the inadequacy, we decorate the MIB module definitions using XML in order to increase the semantics of MIB. With extra information being added, an NMS (network management system) is given more flexibility to configure the management policies. In this rearch, we define the so-called XML-MIB document type to describe MIB modules. Because XML allows defining any task specific tags, we define some such tags to decorate each managed object so as to embed certain task correlated miscellanies into the object. In particular, a manager can define a management function to synthesize the events of monitoring devices using a script. Then, by incorpating with an appropriate presention scheme defined by the manager, NMS can generate an HTML document that includes the management policy defined using a script language for remote management using a Web Browser. This reasearch also aims at building an integrated environment to help the development of SNMP software both for agent and for manager.
