Study on the Fire Prevention of Public Libraries in the Taipei Metropolitan Area

Due to the library is a place that in charge of preserving culture, providing information and an important place that store the book materials and culture, yet its security will relating to the human culture treasure wheather can spread from generation to generation or not. The researcher uses contents analysis method, evaluation method, deeply interview method and questionnaire method to research the library fire prevention in the native Taipei metropolitan area. In addition to explore the fire risk and any causes in library, the researcher also selects 17 public libraries in the Taipei metropolitan area as the study cases. To evaluate the fire-fighting equipment among them, and making a deeply interview with the library manager. To realize the native public libraries fire fighting measures, librarians fire-fighting conscious and to prevent the native library go the way of before and to reduce the library fire possibility, property loss and personnel casualities. The major finding are : (1) Realizing the public library fire probably causes ; (2)County-level and country- level public libraries are less handle the fire-fighting training and fire-fighting exercises; (3)Most public libraries are laking of the fire plan; (4)Unqualified rates among county- level, country level and old-fashioned public libraries are high; (5)Librarians should enhance using the fire- fighting equipment and increase the fire- fighting common senses; and (6)The promotion between public libraries and fire-fighting sections are few. Finally the researcher make some suggestions to the government, fire section, department of library science in universities, public libraries and librarians.
