First, based on the evolutionary perspective, we develop the generic expansion strategy with its insistence on structural hierarchy. Second, following the transaction cost theory, we point to the strategy of acquisition, capable of displacing market with organization. Third, we suggest the importance of inter-firm relations, arguing that firms can pursue such network strategies as strategic alliances for growth. Using comparative case studies, we apply the proposed model to analyzing the uniqueness and commonality of the development of three Taiwanese PC firms – Acer, Mitac and FIC.
