However, it is more important to formulate policies which can help the older people re-join society and create a more meaningful value for their life. Therefore, to re-educate the older people and help them to return to the society will become an important topic. The education for older people is one of the methods that can solve this problem. After people become aged period, their body function are getting older and older, the frequency of suffering from diseases will increase. Retirements not only make them lose their financial basis, but also make them feel insecure for the loss of social status. Besides, facing the death of their friends or companions, their children are getting married as well as staring careers, they will feel loss a lot. The education for older people is giving help, it will make them join the society or contribute to the society, it will also make the aged society become vitalized. This is one point of this thesis. Facing rapid in creasing of the aged population, Japan has combined the education for older people with social participation, and they get involved in related researches. In recent years, the lifelong learning system has been gradually developed, and the education for older people is getting achieved. When Taiwan is from aging society going in the aged society, Japan''''s experience probably could be taken as a reference. Chapter one of this thesis is the preface. In chapter two, it emphasizes on the discussion of the aged society and the characteristics of aged period. At first, it analyzes the change and tendency of population composition in Japan. Then it approaches the characteristics of older people in physiology, psychology, and sociology. Finally, discusses the problems of the older people. In chapter three, it focuses on the meanings and contents of the education for older people. At first, discusses the meanings and importance of the education for older people. Then discusses the various questions of the education for older people, that aims directly at learning needs, learning barrier…etc. And probes the learning content of the education for older people. In chapter four, it focuses on the discussion of the education for older people in Japan. At first, analyzes the historical development and situation of the education for older people in Japan. Then gives examples for comparison and discussion. Finally it proposes a new style of education for older people as reference. This thesis ends at chapter five, the conclusion.
