The classical geometrical descriptor is the particle size distribution curve. Unfortunately, it does not characterize the packing of gravel. The pair correlation function(PCF) g(r) and Fry method can employ for describing the packing of clastic systems. The size and orientation of the strain ellipse obtained from Fry analysis will demonstrate the particle shape and packing. Thus, to describe the characteristic of particle packing is an another approach for more understanding the gravel behavior. The pair-correlation function can illustrate the neighborhood relationship (e.g., the nearest and the second neighbors) of one particle, the dominant particle size, and the representative elementary volume (REV) in a particle mass. We scan the field photo(Linko, Hsinchu and Sunyee) of gravel formation and take the center points to establish the point fields for analyzing. A curve of the pair-correlation function is then shown. From the first peak and the trend of the curve, the dominant particle size, contact style, and REV range are determined. Three area of gravel formation in Taiwan is studied and they show the curve of the pair-correlation function indeed can work for describing the packing of gravel formation. It shows that the dominant particle size is 25~40 mm in these three area in Taiwan. The REV size is about 900 and 1100 mm in Hsinchu and Linko. Zon-Yee Yang 楊長義 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 193 zh-TW |
