Product development effectively, holds the advance of R&D and manufacturing are the important key for enterprises. In the knowledge age, product development is facing the change of the cross-functional teamwork. So integrate the enterprises’ resource for product development is one of the most important trends for enterprises to raise the competitive advantage. From the team viewpoint, different enterprises develop different product have generate different types of team. So we defined six types of the team in the competitive product development according to the new product and organization. We also tried to analyse the characteristics for each type from organization and product viewpoint. To prove and complement the team typology in the competitive product development, we examined case studies of four representative companies in the machine industry in Taiwan for further research. This study found that there are individual statuses for each type of the team in the competitive product development. As business environments change, enterprises should focus on the dynamic changes of the team typology competitive product development. Furthermore, based on the empirical study, the outsourcing is one the core condition to produce competitive products. In order to quick responses the customers’ need, enterprises often undertake multi-projects of product development. So how to make adjustment and learning during the multi-projects by team is also an important implication of competitive products. The facts discovered in this investigation could offer valuable information for academic reports, and could also provide reference for enterprises to reform.
