Of the 585 questionnaires sent, 468 usable returns were received, thus consituting a 80% return. These were drawn from two power plants and two hospitals in the seaboard of median Taiwan. In this study divided Quality of Work Life into company system、relation of domestic and work、compensation and benefits、human relations、content of work、learning and growth、working environment and honor of work by factor analysis. This investigation revealed that shift workers had lower Quality of Work Life than permanent day workers did. Perception at relation of domestic and work、wage and welfare and work environment shift worker were lower than permanent day workers. Shift workers also had a worse work adjustment condition than permanent day workers did. Significant correlation was found between Quality of Work Life and work adjustment. Character is male、 married 、work without contact customer and seniority with higher Quality of Work Life and batter work adjustment. Relation of domestic and work and compensation and benefits are two of Quality of Work Life’s dimensions that can express shift worker’s work adjustment. It’s helpful for shift worker’s worker adjustment if we can promote these two dimensions. Findings suggest that when corporation practice shift system they must help shift worker adjust their lifestyle and design a benefits system for shift worker. Corporation except supply childcare to married employee also need help unmarried employee to join social activity. Compressed or shortened workweek schedules is another way for corporation shift system. It can reduce impact to shift worker’s domestic and social activity by increased rest day.
