Based on the function of the Model Maker, two approaches have been introduced in this thesis: the flexible layer build and the spray nozzle build. Moreover, computer vision technique has been attached to Model Maker building up process and provided a function of on line layer inspection. The approach of the flexible layer build is to modify the original building up steps of Model Maker to reduce the layers and tooling paths needed. On the other hand, a great time saving could be reached and the accuracy could be still maintained. The other approach is the use of the spray nozzle. The concept of the spray nozzle method is to build up layer in terms of area instead of point. Taguchi Methods has been applied to find a set of control factors so that the performance of the spray nozzle could reach the requirement of the RP process. The result has shown that the building up time could be saved as much as 80%. Conventional RP process will not monitor the result of every layers during part building. If there were any defect, the final work piece would not be accepted. A great deal of time and material are wasted. The computer vision based inspection technique is to examine each layer during the building up process. It will extract the locations of the defects and to rebuild these areas. By adapting the automated visual inspection technology, the quality of the final work piece could be ensured. Jeng Zheng-yuan 鄭 正 元 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 148 zh-TW
