The purpose of the correction is to shape the source-side current to be sinusoidal and in phase with the source voltage. There are two types of correction technologies. The first one is to insert a power factor corrector (PFC) in series between the power source and the load. The second one is to inject harmonic currents into the system by a shunt active power line conditioner (APLC). The main topic of this thesis is to develop new control strategies for the APLC.
We will introduce the circuit structure and operating principles of the single-phase APLC first. Then three control methods are presented and discussed in detail. According to the design procedures, prototype systems are implemented and the experimental results show feasibility of the proposed methods.
