The positioning results are accurate and reliable. The service of the mobile data communication becomes more and more popular. The precise digital maps have been developed due to the needs of the people and the advance of surveying technology. The blind guiding system, which integrate the satellite-based navigation, wireless communication and electronic maps, can serve those outdoor blind persons.
The GPS positioning algorithms used carrier phase triple difference and carrier smoothed code(CSC). There are two sub-systems in our blind guiding system, namely, the moving station and the reference station. The cellular digital packet data(CDPD) modem will link these two. The moving station is a packet of portable electronic equipment, which is carried by the blind. It will guide the user to the destination by synthesized voice from the portable notebook computer. The reference station is installed indoor. It can real time show the location of the moving station on the digital map. The previous trajectory and the future route of the blind can be displayed on the monitor also.
We construct the hardware and the software of the system. Also, we simulate the blind walking on the route in our campus that is planed by in advance. The guiding functions of the system are confirmed. The maximum positioning error is less than 1 m in our experiment.
