| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 森林學研究所 === 87 === Vegetation analysis of Trochodendron aralioides dominated communities were made at Taipei area. Twenty-one sampling plots were established on the mountains of this area ranging from five hundred to one thousand meters elevation. All the plant communities in the investigated areas are dominated by Trochodendron aralioides and Machilus thunbergii. The plants at all study areas include fifty-three families and ninty-nine species; three main types and two subtypes of plant communities have been recognized by MCA and DCA. The important value index of Trochodendron aralioides is related to the pH value of soil, and the Machilus thunbergii related to its standing slope. Trochodendron aralioides is a pioneer tree. Plant community of Trochodendron aralioides at Ta-tun volcanic mountain area is a transitional stage between disturbed phase to evergreen broad-leaved forest or edaphic climax. Trochodendron aralioides is the main dominant species of mature forests at Mt. Erh-ke and Mt. Pi-chia and its plant community is a topographic climax of crest line.
