Another composite contained 10.18 wt. % Bi2O3 and 1.01 wt. % TiO2 in poly (2-hydroxy ethylmethacrylate) with a refractive index of 1.694 (at 632.8 nm). Both composites have high transmission (>95 % for ~ micron film) in visible region. The transmission electron microscopy study of the composites indicated the TiO2 and Bi2O3 particles were about 10 nm in diameter and were well dispersed in the polymer matrix. The composites have shown improved thermal stability over neat polymer. The new composites have potential applications in optics, optical devices and optical communication.
