Among them, the scanner and the color inkjet printer are perhaps the most popular ones. Although one can duplicates color documents by first scanning them into a computer and then printing them out through a color inkjet printer, this procedure is relatively difficult for most consumers and is also time consuming. For small office or home use, a color copier would be more convenient. Traditional color copiers are quite expensive and thus can not be afforded by most people. On the contrary, the prices for scanners and inkjet printers are relatively low. If we could integrate a scanner and a color inkjet printer to become a multi-function color inkjet copier, the cost for color copying will be significantly reduced. By then, it wouldn''t be just a dream for having a personal color inkjet copier. In this thesis, we develop a color inkjet copier by integrating a scanner and a color inkjet printer. The main focus is on the integration of the color inkjet copier circuits through using a digital signal processor (DSP). The firmware for the color inkjet copier is also designed and implemented. Digital halftoning algorithms, such as the ordered dither, the error diffusion, and the modified error diffusion, are coded into the DSP.
