Thanks to the economical effectiveness of nuclear power generation, it becomes more and more important to the peo-ple in Taiwan area in recent years. The duration of routine outage in nuclear power plants affects the efficiency of generators and power generation so that it is very important to shorten outage duration reasonably and improve the efficiency under the assurance of nu-clear safety. The goals of this study are to realize the current method of estimating outage duration, to collect and categorize relevant information about outage management, to com-pare activity times with foreign standards, and to build a prototype of decision support sys-tem which contains the results above. This study began by reviewing literatures and visiting power plants. Then informa-tion is organized and the activity which is urgent to improve is pointed out by some statisti-cal methods. Besides, this study shows the completing probability of outage duration by PERT to help decision makers. At last, a prototype of DSS containing information and documents during the whole outage management is built, which provides the managers a tool to utilize the information in stock effectively and efficiently. The presentation of result is a user interface of window style built by Visual Basic, and it is connected to files on some packaged software formats, such as MS Office, so that the users do not have to learn the manipulation method in advance. This system is also evaluated by plants and by some standard rules to prove its utility and user-friendly. It is expected to build an expert system in the future and to combine with the current informa-tion system in nuclear power plants to make information mobilize and be utilized better.
