The study of maturity of primary sex characteristics, sexual knowledge and sexual attitude of the sixth grade students in elementary schools of the central Taiwan counties

碩士 === 臺中師範學院 === 國民教育研究所 === 87 === The purposes of this study were to (a) understand the conditions of the sixth grade students’sexual knowledge , sexual attitude and maturity of primary sex characteristics in the elementary schools , (b) compare their differences in sexual knowledge and sexual attitude based on gender , residence , SES of family and the maturity of primary sex characteristics , and (c) identify the relation among academic achievement , sexual knowledge and sexual attitude. The study was employed by questionnaire survey method. The subjects included the sixth grade students of elementary schools in the central Taiwan counties. The total number of study samples , consisting of 535 city students and 413 country students , excluded 10 invalid questionnaires , was 938 . Data were analyzed by percentile , average , t-test , unequal n’s three-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment. The main findings of this study were as follows : 1. There was 38.2% female students that had had menstruations , and 8.8% male students had had wet dreams. 2. When female students menstruating first time , it was 57.2% feeling terrible , and 48.2% feeling unterrible. When male students having wet dreams first time , it was 35.7% feeling terrible , and 64.3% feeling unterrible. 3. When female students menstruating first time , most of them asked their mother for help. When male students having wet dreams first time , most did not ask for help. 4. Female students mainly acquired menstrual and other sexual knowledge from their mother ; male students mainly acquired the knowledge of wet dreams from medical books as well as teachers , and other sexualual knowledge from medical books , teachers and video tapes. 5. Students’acquirement of sexual knowledge was no more than average. Female was obviously superior to male in acquirement of sexual knowledge ; high SES students is obviously superior to middle and low SES students. 6. Students’sexual attitude tended toward positive. Female was obviously superior to male in sexual attitude. 7. It was positive correlation among students’academic achievement , sexual knowledge and sexual attitude. 8. It was not significantly different in sexual knowledge and sexual attitude whether students had primary sexual characteristics or not. Finally , some suggestions on teaching as well as future study were proposed.
