Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 海洋資源學系 === 87 === Continuing study on the chemical constituents of the gorgonian coral Briareum excavatum has led to the isolation of twelve new briarane-type diterpenoids 1-12. They are briaexcavatolides A-J (1, 4-12), Excavatolide L (3) and Excavatolide Z (2). The structures and relative stereochemistry of compounds 1-12 were elucidated by spectral and chemical methods and by comparison of their spectral and physical data with those of other structurally similar briarane diterpenes. The structures of compounds 11 and 12 were elucidated form the 1H and 13C NMR spectral recorded at elevated temperature.(70 OC) The relative configuration of 11 was further confirmed by a single crystal X-ray structure analysis. Compounds 4-9 were found to contain a chlorine atom in the molecules. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1-12 against P-388、KB、A549 and HT-29 cancer cell lines were studied. Compounds 1, 3-10, and 12 were found to be inactive against the above four cancer cell lines. However, compound 2 showed significant cytotoxicity against KB and HT-29 cancer cells. Compound 11 showed significant cytotoxicity against KB and P-388 cancer cells .
