Due to global recession and the Asia financial turmoil, the domestic banks’ non-performing rate has increased to a historical high. The internationalization and liberalization of financial markets has worsened the situation. The increase of non-performing rate not only deteriorates the quality of bank assets, but also threats the survival of banks. This essay will focus on credit granting and loan collection management of domestic commercial banks and provide some concrete contingent strategies for that. The increase of non-performing loans will not only affects the reputation of the bank, but also freeze available funds of banks. It will deteriorate the niche of the bank. Therefore, a credit granting mechanism will affect a bank’s operation deeply. The credit granting system, however, will not prevent a bank from non-performing loans without the bankers‘ daily cautious compliance. A well-made credit granting decision and fully compliant with the credit granting mechanism are two major factors to the bank lending management. Non-performing loans are cancers to banks. The objective of loan collection management is to control and speed-up the process of over-due loan clearance. To prevent any new non-performing loan from increase and devote efforts into loan collection are two ways to reach the objective. Facing the changing financial environment and the varieties of economic development, it is the well-trained personnel who can lower down the operation risk and increase the quality of credit granting management. The transparencies of information will be the key success factor to bank operations. Besides, good human resource management will be the most important competitive niche for banks.
