description 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導系 === 87 === The subjective perception of abused women toward their parent-child relationships Mei-Ling Hu Abstract The purpose of this research is to understand about the subjective perception of abused women toward their parent-child relationship. According to a dozen of abused women, the study adopted qualitative research method by semi-structured interviewing and collecting data. Open-coding was selected as the way to analyze the data. The main findings were as follows: 1.Under marriage violence, the children reveal somatic symptom and have the strong reactions of mood including crying, being scared, rage and so on. Moreover, the children''''s reaction include hiding and attempting to stop the violence. Some of them don''''t even know about it at all or are not at home, when the mother are under marriage violence. Fathers will stop proceeding because children cry; even fathers will not beat mothers up in front of children. Some of fathers who do not care about children''''s any reactions will go on beating mothers up or beating mother and children together including children. Some of fathers will threaten mothers via children. Mothers will still protect their children against fathers'''' violence, while abused women are being beaten up. But it usually is of no use. 2.After marriage violence happening, children will rage, sympathize and pity mothers and show helpless. Some of reactions include taking care of mothers, or indifference and impatience. After taking violence, fathers leave red-handed or would pretend nothing happened and carry on doing their business. After being abused, mothers have two sorts of reactions, one is to complain and murmur; another is to conceal their mood and never tell their children what is happening. 3.Abused women''''s subjective perception have three kinds of interactions with their husbands and children. One is to consider about husbands'''' mood. When husbands are in good mood, they will play with their children and help wives take care of children. When husbands are in bad mood, they will beat children. Another is that fathers who seldom interact with their children, and usually interact with their children by beating and yelling. The other fathers seldom interact with their children, but they have the positive interaction with their children. In effect, most fathers always show punishment, violence or unstable mood and behaviors to their children. According to children''''s opinions, they feel afraid, nervous, tiresome, psycho and unreasonable to their fathers. So children''''s reactions to their fathers include hiding, leaving home, pretending to obey father''''s orders, keeping distance with fathers, being against with fathers and making parenthood (fathers to children) estranged with tension and conflict. 4.Abused women have two sorts of ways to raise children: most women spend lots of time taking care of children. Others who are as busy as a bee with their work and housework do not have much time to take care of children. Women will educate and take care of their children by oral warning, telling stories, scolding, beating, kneeling, standing against walls, grounding children and giving concrete reward or oral encouragement. Most parenthood (mothers to children) are to protect one another, support and care about each other. Mother and children make very strong and stable coalition. But a little parenthood (mothers to children) also has estranged and misunderstanding situations. 5.Marriage violence affect the parent-children interaction by four parts. The first part is "mother''''s personal mood influences parenthood interaction" such as: Mother in bad mood will effect children''''s mood, mother''''s teaching and educating ways become impatient and improper, mother complain and murmur to children and mother has no time look after children. The second part is "after mother leaving home, its parenthood interactive effect" such as: mother who insists on leaving home decision keeps distance with children in purpose, children can''''t understand why mother leaves home and mother has no ability to raise children and send them to orphanage, so it makes parenthood untrustful. The third is "when mother who takes care about children gets big pressure" such as: neighbors'''' gossip, being afraid that children will learn the negative behaviors from their father, being worried about daughters who will follow her steps and children who will be beaten up by her husband. The forth is "children will be scapegoat of parents'''' marriage conflict" such as: parents will take it out on children, some parents will complain to their children of having to stay and suffer owing of children, sometimes father will threaten mother or ask children where their mother is by beating children and children have attempt and action of leaving home. 6.Abused women''''s subjective perception about conflict and violence event between parents will effect children, such as: children will learn the bad behaviors from their father, children dare not marry or marriage will be effected by their father, children''''s personality will despise themselves, shrink, close and get fear easily, children''''s mood is easily influenced by their parents, they will feel annoyed, pressured and helpless and children will not concentrate on academic work. According to the results, suggestions for practical counseling and future studies are provided.
