Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中央大學 === 物理研究所 === 87 === In this thesis, we simulate the two-dimensional Faraday waves to study the wave behavior of the linear instability at a small driving amplitude to the nonlinear waves at a large driving amplitude. When the driving amplitude is near the threshold, we measure the growth rate in simulation and compare our results to the theoretical calculation of instability. Our simulation results indeed showed a good agreement with the theoretical values. As we increase the driving amplitude, there appears an overshooting height of surface, and then the height saturates to a steady state, accompanied by irregular changes of surface height. We think that this might indicate the presence of a supercritical Hopf bifurcation. Another possibility of the irregularity is the combination of the free surface oscillations and the driven Faraday waves.
