In the past,most of the researches of the STN LCD did the parameter optimization concertrated on the ⊿nd value of the liquid crystal and the compensation films,but there is little information available on the effect of the elastic constants. We found that the elastic constants will affect the number of color of the ECB mode STN LCD,and the steepnessof their transmission-voltage curves are controlled by the values of k11*k22 and k33 instead of the ratio of k22/k11 and k33/k11.The results are different from the viewpoint of the past reports.
