Concerning information rate dimension, the information rate scale(IRS) examined by Locher with fourteen adjective pairs was applied to measure the average information rate and correlative factor scores. Concerning aesthetic preference dimension, the subjects made comparative judgments of relative "interest" and "pleasure" between all possible pairs (66) of the paintings. Results obtained as following: (1) IRS was able to measure information rate of painting and derived three common factors including "quantitative content"、"qualitative content and familarity"、"composition" factor ; (2) amoung twelve paintings information rate of the number 3 painting was the highest, while number 9 was the lowest ; (3) amoung twelve paintings interest and pleasure scores of the number 1 painting were the highest, while interest score of number 8 was the lowest, pleasure score of number 5 was the lowest ; (4) the value of interest was significantly influenced by a painting''s specific style(left-brain vs. right-brain dominance) and subjects'' gender ; (5) the value of pleasure was significantly influenced by a painting''s specific style(abstract vs. representational) and subjects'' art training ; (6) information rate and aesthetic preference such as interest and pleasure did not have direct correlation.
