The academic learning ability of this study were represented by the grades of Chinese and Mathematics subjects. The subjects were 330 fifth - grade elementary children, 155 boys and 175 girls (93 boys and 106 girls are from the urban area, and 62 boys and 69 girls are from the suburban area), and their mean age was 10.5±0.3 years old. The data collection of this study were subjects'' body types (including height, weight, BMI and chest measurement) and their grades in Chinese and Mathematics. The subjects were also tested 6 kinds of basic motor ability (including hand-eye cognitive reaction ability, upper extremity light selective reaction ability, grip, lower extremity light selective reaction ability, 30M sprint, Burpee test). All data were transformed into T scores and comparing the correlation and difference between urban and suburban of sex by pearson correlation and independent - T test. The results were as followed: 1. The academic learning ability of all subjects shows a significant correlation (r=.331**) with their basic motor ability. The basic motor ability of all testers shows a significant correlation. (r=.154**) with their body types. 2. The academic achievement of boys and girls shows a significant correlation with different kinds of basic motor ability. The boys'' grades in Mathematics show a significant correlation with their right hand hand-eye cognitive reaction ability and their left hand grip. The boys'' grades in Chinese showed a correlation with their right hand hand-eye cognitive reaction ability. The girls'' academic achievement showed a correlation with their grip, upper extremity light selective reaction ability, lower extremity light selective reaction ability, 30 M sprint, and their hand-eye cognitive reaction ability. The grades in Chinese between the boys and the girls showed a significant difference. 3. The academic achievement of elementary children in urban and suburban showed a significant correlation with different kinds of basic motor ability. The academic achievement of elementary children in urban showed a significant correlation with their hand-eye cognitive reaction ability、upper extremity light selective reaction ability、grip and Burpee test. The academic achievements of elementary children in suburban showed a correlation with their hand-eye cognitive reaction ability and upper extremity light selective reaction ability. The grades of elementary children in Mathematics between urban and suburban showed a significant difference. 4. The gross motor ability (including 30M sprint、Burpee test、lower extremity light selective reaction ability、grip ability) between the boys and the girls showed a significant difference. The fine motor control ability (including hand-eye cognitive reaction ability、upper extremity light selective reaction ability) between the boys and the girls didn''t show a significant difference. 5. The hand-eye cognitive reaction ability and upper extremity light selective reaction ability between the boys and the girls, urban and suburban all showed a significant correlation (r=.333**). The upper extremity light selective reaction ability can be effectively and objectively examined through CHEN''s hand-eye cognitive reaction test box invented by Dr. CHEN, Chan-Show. key word Penghu Area、elementary children、gross motor ability fine motor control、CHEN''S hand - eye cognitive reaction test achievements、basic motor ability Chen Chuan Show 陳全壽 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 68 zh-TW
