碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系 === 87 === Tainan city was formerly called "Fu-Cheng", which once reined by five empires and the influences were displayed on the urban fabric, streets and so on. Of course the street naming is not exception. Because of the same actor, we can infer the conditions of the urban substance environment by street names. Moreover, by means of the understanding of social context, we can analyze the benefits what the actor can get through by annotating the street object. Therefore, the study constructed the viewing matrix including several theories as follows: the history of cities development, we can improve this background knowledge to help to analyze the elements and forming processes of the street public space; The production of space by Henri Lefebvre to define and classify urban space. In addition, the study adopted the discourse logic by Foucault''s power theory; and Collective memory theory, this helps to explain the total logic about street naming processes and what street names influence people. Consequently, my study used the matrix to explain these historical streets naming data. According the above, there are there issues in the research as follows: 1. Street naming was strongly related to the social context at that time. 2. The collective memory were mediated by street names. 3. Street names were with the characteristic of instability. 4. The ruler at that time was as the mastermind of street naming. 5. The coherence of street names and the convenience to administration or management were the main characteristics of street naming after 1920A.D.
