Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 交通管理學系 === 87 === The growth of national income of the inhabitant in Taiwan makes the rapid increase of the private conveyance, such as the passenger cars and the motorcycles. It not only causes the chaos of the traffic but also increases the potential danger of accident. On the point of becoming developed country, we should concern to promote the quality of the private modes as well as the importance of the traffic safety. In order to protect the inhabitants’ life and property, and to improve their quality of living, we have to study causalities of accidents, to find out a suitable solution, and to decrease the probability of accident occurrence.
Most previous studies always focused on the relationships between accident frequencies and the following factors including road design and traffic flow to discuss the severity of accident based on the aggregate data. In this research, the disaggregate data is used to explore the severity of the accidents. The injury severity of the driver can be divided into three levels: no injury, injury, and death, and the ordered logit model is adapted to evaluate the probabilities of injury on each level.
In this study, it shows that the injury severity of male driver is lighter than that of female driver when accident occurs. The safest vehicle types are the large car and small car; the most dangerous vehicle type is the bicycle. Among all models involving accidents at the intersection, truck carrying stone is the most significant factor in fatal accident. Moreover, some factors also affect the probability of death deeply, such as “drunk driving”, “speeding and out of control”, and “the car hits the object behind the road”. The higher the speed limit of the section is, the higher is the probability of death while accidents occur. If the traffic island is installed, the injury level of drivers involving accidents will decrease.
