The data was collected by the stated preference approach for the rail and airline passengers in the west corridor of Taiwan. The questionnaire was both in written form and computer-aided design.
This research used four-scale ordered data to build ordered probit models and binary logit models. The results are as follows:
1. The service quality of high-speed rail did affect the travelers'' choice. Travel cost and travel time are most important variables. The preferred service variables for the travelers of different travel distance were different. The chosen mode of travelers also had an impact on their preferred service.
2. The dis-utilities of travel cost and travel time decreased with the travel distance.
3. The alternative modes had an impact on the preferred service variables of travelers.
4. The predictive power of binary logit models is slightly higher than those of ordered probit models. However, they could not deal with the ordered scale problem.
5. The questionnaire of computer-aided design performed better than that of traditional written form in terms of variable significance and explanatory power.
