Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 外國語文學系 === 87 === This thesis argues for a return of ethical and political engagement in literary criticism. The world we live in has numerous problems waiting to be solved. Since we entered the age of information, however, literary study has been isolated from real-world issues. It is imperative for literary critics to redirect their attention to socail and political issues; they should not address solely the academics but the public as well. The most serious problem postmodern critics face today is the crisis of subjectivity. This thesis discusses the problem in depth from several perspectives, particularly from Foucault's and Bakhtin's. In addition, it discusses methods of preserving man's subjectivity in postmodern society. To keep up with the rapid changes in the age of information, the thesis applies the concept of Bakhtinian dialogical engagement to the Internet, which may serve as a site of intellectual reformation.
