An autonomous mobile agent can choose when and where to go totally under its own control. Upon deciding to migrate, it suspends current execution, migrates to a new host, and resumes the execution there. They are therefore particularly effective for developing distributed applications. There have been studies, implementations, and prototype applications of mobile agents based on the traditional client-server computing architectures with permanent network connection of computers. However, as more and more applications are using mobile agents, security issues are also getting more and more concerns. Before mobile agents can be widely accepted for daily applications, especially for electronic commerce, security problems need to be solved urgently. The main purpose of this thesis is therefore to find out all the security threats when the agent migrates or executes. Aimed for solving these security threats, we design a security mechanism of mobile agent system, and extend an existing autonomous mobile agent execution environment (MACE-Mobile Agent Carrier Environment)constructed in a previous project to implement and test our security mechanism.
