Porter (1985) considers that innovation can make profits for firms. An enterprise can enhance the performance of its organization by innovation. In addition, innovation can also assure a company to gain long-term profit and to achieve its goal of growing. The framework of this study is mainly based on the explanations of the attributes of company resources capability which Barney asserts in 1991 according to the resource-based theory; furthermore, there are some theories and viewpoints pointed out by other related scholars. On these bases, this paper discusses the relationship among the innovation, resource capability and growth strategy through case studies by selecting firms which run business on web site. The major findings of this research are as follows: 1.The innovation modes of web site business can be chiefly divided into technical and content innovation. 2.With the differences of original core resources, the innovation types of web site business also change. (1)When the core resources tends to be substantially and financially prosperous, the innovation is closer to modular innovation. (2)When the core resources tends to be personal abilities, the innovation is closer to radical innovation. 3.Through the success of innovation, new resources with competitive advantages can be developed. 4.The advantageous core resources of web site business are essentially “intangible property”, “organizing capability” and “personal ability”. 5.With the differences of core resources capability, the growth strategies of companies are also different. 6.The best growth strategy of web site business is strategic alliance.
