Sixty compounds including twenty-four alkaloids: venoterpine (1), strychnoterpine (2), nicotinic acid (3), 4-methoxy-2-quinolone (4), 4-tert-butyl-2-oxazolidinone (5), 3-acetoxyindole (7), indole-2-carboxylic acid (8), benzocaine (9), (+)-eburnamonine (10), harman (11), boldine (13), strychnine (14), brucine (15), 3-formylindole (16), 3-acetylindole (17), gramine (18), tryptoline (19), 6-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline (20), harmalol (45), allantoin (54), guanosine (55), thymidine (56), adenosine (57), thymine (58); tweleve benzenoids: syringaldehyde (22), butylparaben (27), vanillin (34), 3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan-1-one (37), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (38), gallic acid (39), vanillic acid (40), isovanillin (41), 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (42), methyl 3,4-dicaffeoyl quinate (49), syringic acid (50), benzoic acid (59); four steroids: stigmasterol (21), β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (31), β-sitosterol (32), pergnenolone (36); two triterpenoids: β-amyrin (28), squalene (33); one acetophenone: acetopiperone (35); two fatty acids: stearic acid (29), palmitic acid (30); one lignan: (+)-sesamin (26), one coumarin: osthole (25); one chromane: α-tocopherol (24); one tetraterpenoid: β-carotene (23); three iridoids: siphonostegiol (6), loganetin (42), loganin (48); two secoiridoids: sweroside (48), secostrychnosin (12); three flavonoids: luteolin (43), rutin (46), quercetin (47); one polyphenol: corilagin (52); one nonaromatic organic acid: shikimic acid (51) and one unknown compound: SHS-1(60) have been isolated. Among them, 2 and 12 were new compounds, seven compounds : 5、7、8、9、17、27 and 42 were firstly isolated from plant origin. Thirty-five compounds : 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 13, 18~20, 22~26, 33~41, 44, 45, 49~52 and 54~59 were known compounds, newly isolated from Strychnos genus. The structure of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. Moreover, the biological activities of these compounds are currently under investigation.
