Two independent variables were manipulated in this experiment. On the lie condition, subjects were asked to try their best to tell a lie. The truth condition was the control condition for the lie condition. The second independent variable was “lie construct” manipulation. The three conditions for this variable were: eye blink increase group, eye blink decrease group, vs. no lie construct group. Therefore, this was a 2×3 between subject experimental design. Subjects were college students. The manipulation of “lie/truth” was completed by asking participants to take away the money from a draw first, hide it on himself carefully (or do nothing──the truth group), and then deny having taken the money in the following interview. The manipulation of “lie construct” was achieved by asking participants to read a recent research finding about lie detection to form the relevant lie construct. The dependent variable of the first hypothesis was the nonverbal behavior responses of participants during an interview after manipulation of independent variable, including seven dimensions: eye blink, gaze starring, gaze aversion, smiling, adaptors, movements of hands or fingers, and movements of feet or legs. The dependent variable of the second hypothesis was the eye-blink frequency of participants during the interview. The result showed that: only the dimension of “adaptors” was significant under the manipulation of “lie/truth”. It showed that when the participants were telling a lie, the frequency of “adaptors” will increase. For the second hypothesis, the result showed that: there was no interaction effect between “lie/truth” and “lie construct”. Comparing findings of this experiment with those of foreign researches, the researchers posed a possible explanation from the culture perspective to encourage further research on lie detection for Chinese. Key words: deception(lie) detection, nonverbal behavior, lie construct, lie. HUNG-YU LIN 林烘煜 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 95 zh-TW |
