Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 宗教學系 === 87 === A Study on the Gospel of Matthew 20,1-16 The parable of Matthew20,1-16 which is recorded only in the Gospel of Matthew , like all the other parables of the Synoptic Gospels , has a long history of interpretation .It has been interpreted since the writer of the Gospel began redacting and the early church used this Gospel . However , even in the recent days many New Testament scholars have presented different viewpoints. The aim of this thesis is to interpret properly the parable of Matthew20,1-16 and to understand Jesus’ important teaching about the Kingdom of God. For this aim , this thesis employs method of historical criticism and hermeneutics. And for its proper interpretation, this parable is treated as a story not as an allegory nor a picture. So I will consider all of the chief constituents of this parable. In order to get the wholistic understanding of this parable I use three approaching method. Those are exegetical method, hermneutical method, and theological study. The procedure of the thesis is as follow. Chapter II is the examination of the frame of the parable of Matthew20,1-16 with respect to the form criticism and the redaction criticism. Chapter III is commentary of the present text recording this parable. Chapter IV is Biblical Exegesis search of the main subject of this parable and has the consideration of the language event with respect to the literary criticism. Chapter V is theological interpretation of this parable based on the theology of Matthew, especially his ecclesiastical view and eschatological view. In this chapter, I will criticize the text through the method of emendation criticism and composition criticism. In conclusion, chapter VI briefly summarizes the results obtained through the studies and suggests my conclusions. The major conclusion of this study are as the following : First, this parable has the history of tradition from the words of Jesus to present text. Next, in spite of the history of tradition, this parable preserves the central message. It is the Jesus’ imperative to have the solidarity and collective responsibility to the little ones of churches or of society. Then, this parable is applied to the Christian communities or churches so that it can teach us true discipleship following Jesus. Moreover, it forces us to prepare the eschaton and the last judgement by obeying Jesus’ commendments. Finally, this investigation shows that the parable of Matthew20,1-16 invites us to the Kingdom of God, and also demands us to possess God’s eye instead of breaking the eye of this world. It is the natural meaning of this parable.
