Considering commercial application, the components are selected by a trade-off between cost and performance. The thesis consists of three parts: the first part introduces the concept of the system design, the important specifications of the system include the operating frequency, output power and so on… Therefore, the IC components can be chosen according to the specifications of system. For example, low noise amplifier (MGA-85563), power amplifier (MGA-83563), switch (AS125-73), IF amplifier (INA-30311), downconverter (UPC-2752T), median amplifier (UPC-2762T), synthesizer (LMX-2350) demodulator (RF2667), modulator (HPMX-2007) …etc. The second part studies the RF circuit design and simulation. In front-end component simulation and measurement, the measured gain of the low noise amplifier is 40dB. That is similar to 41dB obtained from simulation. The NF is 3.5dB that is similar to 2dB obtained from simulation. The gain of power amplifier is 18.5dB by measurement and 21dB by simulation, respectively. The gain of downconverter is 16dB and the isolation between any two ports are between 17 and 25dB. For synthesizer, the output radio frequency range and power are 2118~2218MHz and -12dBm, respectively. The output IF frequency range and power are 275~290MHz and -14dBm, respectively. The third part studies IF circuit design and measurement including modulator and demodulator. The gain of IF Amplifier is 12.33dB by measurement and 12.3dB by simulation.
