Different from the traditional GPS (General Problem Solver) approach, our focus is placed on how to judge the performance of PS paths and diagnose the erroneous operation from unsuccessful PS paths. When a learner solves some procedural problem, the wrong answer usually be caused by using erroneous operation. For the reason of diagnosing erroneous operation from unsuccessful PS paths, the diagnosis PSN (Problem Solving Network) is constructed by merging the PSN and the concept of tree ring. This paper proposes the model of evaluation and the methodology of diagnosis for PS paths. An elaborated CPSN (Coordinate Problem Solving Network) is developed as the evaluation model of problem solving. In CPSN, each problem state is assigned a unique coordinate and then each successful PS path can have an evaluation vector. A diagnosis PSN is developed as diagnosis methodology of problem solving. The diagnosis PSN can diagnose the erroneous operation in unsuccessful PS path is constructed by the last correct problem state and every problem state will include the concept of tree ring. In diagnosis PSN, each problem state can record its operations in tree ring which have been executed before. Then the problem state which is the most similar with the erroneous problem state would be found in diagnosis PSN by comparison. Finally, the erroneous operation can be traced by the tree ring of problem state. Keywords: problem solving, problem solving path, problem state, operation, problem graph, CPSN, tree ring, diagnosis PSN Jia-Sheng Heh 賀嘉生 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 56 en_US
