Abstract
Based on the related theories published by Jean Baudrillard, this thesis design is one of the spatial experiments, which is attempted to set up different definitions over the typical “ home-space “. With the involvement of the new living style, characters and concepts, it intends to interrogate those common thoughts in the design process and to understand the
progressive power toward future of the aspects in the social theory and the cultural form of space.
By focusing on the discussion of virtual reality and medium, it is hoped that some subversive factor or event would be found and, further , to dislocate the stable and unchangeable
construction of the design affairs. It stands to reason that “ home “ has such strong meaning in every aspect in any culture, I decide to make up a series of “ house “ in a virtual site(which may not exist)and, a cyber-punk(unusual status)as the actor on this stage to get rid of the regular consideration(sweet home,…etc)and let more possibilities in design be explored.
The concepts of this project are three main-issues which were interlaced into the frame of my design-thesis:(a)imitation, simulation and simulacra;(b)normal/punk,ambiguity;(c)the space of ” home “. The sphere and the subjects that were discussed in this thesis design are assorted by two parts:
1. The aspect of theoretical discourse on the media and the modern technology civilization.
2. The aspect of design manipulation of the typical “ home- space “.
The design project will represent the juxtaposition of “ a house without family ”, “ a house of anybody”, and “ a house of his / the punk’s “ and try to keep the theory and the design in a dialectical state.
