Right after the fabrication of the junctions, we employed the pulsed laser etching(PLE)technique for the confinement of the effective tunneling area. The size of the tungsten wire used for the PLE is less than 0.050 mm. Various tunneling characteristics of the YBCO / STO / YBCO and YBCO / PBCO / YBCO junctions with and without the PLE are compared, and the Josephson effects are investigated under the influences of microwave and magnetic field. By the using of PLE, we not only get better results of the I-V characteristic curve for the Josephson junction, but also we found it is a very convenient way to transfer the narrow bridge pattern to the samples to be etched, Just like pulsed laser deposition is effective in transferring the target material to the deposited thin films .
