| Summary: | 碩士 === 中國醫藥學院 === 中國藥學研究所 === 87 === Vernonia patula is one of the plants of Compositae family, it isused to clear away dampness-heat, remove blood stasis, relieve swelling and detoxify the poisons. In folk medicine, it is used to treat common cold, acute gastro-enteritis, malaria, mastitis, liver disease and headach. It is also externally used to treat herpes, eczema, urticaria etc. The preliminary tests showed that it had strong cytotoxicity against L1210 and P388 cell lines. It is a common folk medicine in Taiwan. Therefore it is a genus whorthwhile investigation.
The methanolic extract of the herb was partitioned and purified by chromatographic and recrystalling methods. By analyzing their phsical, chemical and spectral data, these compounds were indentified as lupeol acetate(Ⅰ), 3-epi-fridelinol(Ⅱ), 1-dotriacontanol(Ⅲ), stigmasterol and β-sitosterol mixture(Ⅳ), friedelin(Ⅴ), β-amyrin acetate(Ⅵ), β-sitosterol-3-O-β-glucoside and stigmasterol-3-O-β-glucoside mixture (Ⅶ). These compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant.
