Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學研究所 === 87 === The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between personality (self-esteem and health locus of control), social support and coping behaviors in HIV/AIDS patients. The research design employed a cross-sectional survey approach. Data were collected from outpatient departments of three medical centers and one sexual transmitted disease clinic in Taipei. The results of the study showed that: (1)the highest score of coping was HIV/AIDS specific health coping behaviors, (2)patients with educational level at or above senior high school has significantly higher HIV/AIDS specific health coping score than those with educational level under the senior high school. Age was positively correlated with HIV/AIDS specific health coping. Self-esteem and social support were positively correlated with problem-oriented and HIV/AIDS specific health coping. Chance health locus of control was negatively correlated with problem-oriented and HIV/AIDS specific health coping but positively correlated with emotion-oriented coping. Internal health locus of control was positively correlated with problem-oriented coping. Internal health locus of control,chance health locus of control, self-esteem and social support accounted for 42.7% of the total variance of problem-oriented coping. Significant predicting factors were self-esteem and social support. Education level, chance health locus of control, self-esteem and social support accounted for 33.2% of the total variance of HIV/AIDS specific health coping.
