碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 數學研究所 === 87 === Abstract The notion of effective bandwidths has provided a useful practical framework for connection admission control and capacity planning in high-speed communication networks. First, we use large deviations principles for workload tail probabilities (loss probabilities) as a theoretical basis. When traffic parameters are known, effective bandwidths can be calculated and may be used to obtain a circuit-switched style call acceptance and routing algorithm for ATM networks. Finally, we give the formula of effective bandwidths for ATM traffic sources.
