With this method, we change the geometrical structure of a primer systematically, and discuss the characteristics of pressure and flame propagation along with time. This allows us to identify relevant design parameter for decreasing the ignition time. The results can be used to optimize the ignition devices of current army. The experimental models are based on traditional primer. A dynamic pressure transducer (sampling rate 60KHz) has been utilized to measure the pressure difference between the holes at the two ends of the primer. The phenomena of combustion and flame propagation along the primer tubes are recorded by using a high-speed camera (recording rate 6KHz). The results of the experiment show that increasing the strength of the tape can built up higher pressure in the tube, speed up the combustion, and help the energy to be released in a more concentrated manner. In addition, decreasing the diameter of the vent holes can improve the pressure-preserving effect and the mass flux of the holes. The effect is better when the ratio of the hole-distance to the length of the primer is at 0.07. Increasing the distance between the ignition pellet and the first hole can shorten the time between the burst of flames and the break of the tape. Finally, the material and the viscosity of the tape covering the primer are important factors for the stability of the primer’s performance. Wu Chang Chieh 吳章傑 1999 學位論文 ; thesis 92 zh-TW
