In order to make most use of the rifle, adaptability between a rifle and a user is necessary and important. Among the problems of adaptability, the explosion noise occurring at the muzzle has the biggest impact on its operation and performance. If a user is exposed to high level dB from that noise in long terms, his or her health will be harmed and his or her fighting capacity will also be seriously reduced. In addition, explosion noise induces vibrations of the muzzle. This can affect the stability of rifle and then decrease the shot accuracy. This research focuses on designing a silencer in order to decrease muzzle noise, and to match the requirements of short barrel length and keeping the same ammunition design. The rifle system used for this study is the T86 combat rifle, provided by 205 Arsenal, the Ordnance Production Service, the Combined Service Forces Besides. A whole set of noise measuring device and procedures have been carried out for this research so as to provide the foundation of other measuring explosion noise for various small arms. This research will be helpful to develop a new weapon system, and to build independent, own capability of defense research.
