The weighted matrix is obtained by the weight of qualitative and quantitative matrix. A multi-rows machine layout model is modified to this detailed layout model. A heuristic approach is developed by genetic algorithm (GA) so that an acceptable solution can be obtained without being trapped in local optimum. An example of a operation room of a local hospital was illustrated. Finally, the Taguchi method is conducted to find the best combination of GA parameters.
