Spain became a full member of then European Communities on January 1 1986. From then on, Spain has ended its isolation situaition and tried its best to cooperate with EC. Accordigly all EU legislation has, particularly since the end of the transition period at the beginning of 1993, been fully applicable in Spain. However, the major challenge of Spain''s entry into EC undoubtedly came in 1993 with the advent of the European Single Market as a genuine barrier-free trade space, without the physical, technical and fiscal barriers, That is to say, since 1986 Spain had to cope not only with the shock of accession to the EC but also with the effects of the single market program. The aim of this thesis is to discuss the effects of tariff elimination to Spanish industrial development and analyze how Spain adjusts its economic condition in order to promote the economic gowth. The research methods are historical and documentary approaches. The content of this thesis is divided into six chapters as follows: Ⅰ. Foreword; Ⅱ. The theory and the development of the EU Customs Union; Ⅲ. The Spanish economic framework before 1986, as a base for comparison; Ⅳ. The process of the EU Customs Union adjustment, since Spain''s accession to the European communities; Ⅴ. The analysis of the impact of the adaptation measures on Spanish industrial development and labor market evolution; Ⅵ. Conclusion. According to this study, since Spain''s integration into the EU, foreign investors have considered Spain to be one of the most attractive countries in which to invest. Therefore Spain has obtained a number of capitals from forengn direct investment, and received most EU structural and cohestion funds, which are used to finace infrastructure and development projects. Looking to the future, Spain is firm to improve the problems of unemployment and regional disparity, in order to advance the economic development. Yuan, Yii-Mann 苑倚曼 1998 學位論文 ; thesis 184 zh-TW
