In the field of labor economics, there are numerous empirical studies of male/female wage discrimination. However, most of these studies ignore the effect of wage discrimination on employmnet. As Baldwin and Johnson(1992a) pointed out, if labor supply curves are upward-sloping, wage discrimination would affect not only male/female relative wage emplyment rates. This research adapts not only the Oaxaca(1973) method to estimate wage discrimination effect but also a three-stage approach to estimate the effect of wage discrimination on employment as suggested by Baldwin and Johnson(1992a,1992b). The data employed inthis research is the 1996 Taiwan Manpower Utilization Survey. Through this research, the current situation of wage discrimination in Taiwan may be explored, and the effects of wage discrimination may be analyzed. Several empirical results are found in this paper. First of all, the effect of wage discrimination in Taiwan exists. The wage difference between male andfemale is 50.455 NT dollars, and the part attributed to wage discrimination is ranged from 10.34% to 48.68%. Moreover, the existence of wage discrimination will induce a higher employment rate for men and a lower employment rate for female. As a whole, the total employment in the society is reduced due to wage discrimination. Ruoh-Rong Yu 于若蓉 1998 學位論文 ; thesis 55 zh-TW
