The main theme of this thesis is to probe into the ways that the American media cover the news of developing countries with their domination of communication. In order to make a specific analysis of China''s image, the author selected TIME magazine from 1989 to 1997 to answer the proposed quantitative and qualitative questions by content analysis method. The author finds that the American media cover the news of Third World countries from the viewpoints of its own position and ideology, championing democracy, capitalism, and human rights. It therefore fails to report the news on predicaments and requirements of the developing countries. Most of these countries can only accept the negative images built by the superior, western communicators; however, some of the powerful developing countries, such as communist China, tend to resist the values and ideology from the western world.
