Wang 林 清 章 王 健 華Abstract: This study is to examine a variety of factors that affect the implementa tions ofinstructional media for junior high school teachers in Taiwan. Especia lly, afterhaving installed basic equipment in general classrooms. These factor s include thedegree of media literacy, the difficulty of adopting media into i nstruction, the feasible administrative efforts to increase the desire of ut ilizing instructional media, and willingness of using computerized multimedia and networks. Samples were randomly selected from junior high school teach ers around Taiwan Province. "A survey of using instructional media in genera l classrooms for junior high school teachers" created by the researcher was us ed as the instrument. Results of the research are as follows:1. The most fa vorable instructional media for teachers were VCR, OHP, and audio cassette rec order, respectively.2. Teachers with different personality were significantly different in the disposition of utilizing instructional media.3. In general, teachers agreed that basic instructional media have the functions of facilita ting instruction. Teachers considered that VCR is the most favorable device a mong the basic instructional media to increase students'' interest and to obtai n concrete images. They also considered that OHP is able to save time as well as to standardize the instruction.4. Teachers with different personality were significantly different in the degree of media literacy.5. Implementations o f instructional media in general classrooms were not as expected.6. The frequ ency of utilizing baisc instructional media is significantly lilgher, when suc h equipment has installed in general classrooms.7. The reasons of hesitation in utilizing instructional media have changed in these years.8. The most feas ible administrative efforts that may enhance teachers'' disposition of utilizin g basic instructional media were as follows, respectively: a. Financial support for expanding hardware and software . b. Systematic management as well as clear responsibility for increasing the effectiveness of administration.c. Sufficient in-service training for updati ng teachers'' knowledge related to media.d. Mid-term and long-term plans for d eveloping instructional media programs.e. Routine evaluations made by educati onal executives for providing adequare supports.9. Teachers have recognized t he importance of digital media. They also demonstrated a certain degree of in tention of using them. 10. So far, some junior high schools have not installe d basic instructional media completely. Based on the results of the researc h, following suggestions are made:1. Educational executives should confirm a complete installation of basic instructional media in general classrooms for every school. They also have to construct in-service training programs in med ia production and instruction, to revise "the standard of media education in j unior high schools" ,and to perform concrete evaluations in order to providing adequate supports. 2. Schools should make specific plan for the development of instructional media. They also have to secure enough budgets for updating h ardware and software. 3. Teachers should routinely take related in-service tr aining courses.4. Qualitative research methods may be used in future studies to gain more in-depth findings in related issues.
