The rationale offered by most nonprofit advocactes is that they represent
the noncommercial collective interests of the general public as opposed to the
special economic interests of particular segments of society. In other words,
the nonprofit advocacy is distincitively committed to the "public interest" de
fined in terms of noneconomic, collective or indivisible interests that haveth
e general public as their intended beneficiary. This dissertation provi
des a brief overview of nonprofit organizations and policy advocacy that outli
nes the rationale and approaches of nonprofit advocacy and introduces a concep
tual framework for understanding better the discursive attributes of policy ad
voccacy of women groups in Taiwan.
